Dear Alumni,

Every day that passes we get closer to our annual Signature Event and Silent Auction.  This year it will be held at The Art Institute of Houston on September 13, 2007.  We are currently in the process of looking for auction items and volunteers.
Due to the success of this event last year we were able to donate scholarship money to continuing students at The Art Institute of Houston.  This coming October we will award $2,000 in scholarships.  If you are or know a continuing student please watch for guidelines.
As we work towards our Signature event we are also looking into starting a new initiative.  We will be developing a Business Directory that will include alumni owned and operated businesses and businesses where our alumni work.  Each alumnus will be allowed a line with the business name and contact information and will be given the opportunity to purchase an additional ad in the directory.  This will allow our alumni a premier networking opportunity.  The Business Directory will be printed and available for distribution at our Signature Event.  If you would like to be included please contact Zack Zwicky with your information.
I am looking forward to the rest of our third year as an organization and hope to make our event in September bigger and better.

Sincerely,

Andi Maceo
Alumni Association President

February 16, 2007

Dear:

Just recently, I made a commitment to support the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society in their fight against this cancer by joining their “Team In Training”.  I am training to run in the Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon in San Diego in June (yes a marathon – 26.2 miles) to raise funds to help the 100,000+ American men, women, and children who are struck by Leukemia—the leading killer of children in the United States.

You may be thinking—“Hey, I know him, he’s likes to run, so this must be easy for him, not exactly.  Up to now the most I have ever competed in was in 10K (6.2 miles) races so this is quite different for me. No, I’m not suddenly crazy, and yes, I am going to complete 26.2 miles. I made this commitment for several reasons. First, after reading some of the stories of those afflicted with blood cancers, running a marathon cannot be as grueling as what some of the Honored Heroes have gone through. Second, I am grateful for my good health and want to express that gratitude by using it to help others. I also want to challenge myself and prove to myself that I can meet difficult goals.  Most importantly, I want to help sponsor cancer treatment research.  The research that the Society has sponsored has been the catalyst for revolutionary
image004treatments for Hodgkin’s disease, Lymphoma, and other cancers, including
breast and lung cancer. The research is working: In forty years the survival rate
for children with Leukemia has gone from 4 percent to 85 percentage - a
phenomenal difference.

I am training in honor of Andrew Post of San Antonio. Andrew was
diagnosed with Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia in October 2005.
Andrew is now remission, and his treatment is scheduled to
Be completed in February 2009. Andrew’s favorite class is reading
time.   He likes basketball and bowling.  His favorite movie is Cars
and his favorite music comes from the Happy Feet movie. His treatment
would not have been possible without the support of the Leukemia and
Lymphoma Society. Thinking of Andrew will help me get up at 6am on
Saturday morning for my weekly 8, 10, 15, 20 and 26.2-mile runs.

My goal is to raise $3900 by May 15, 2007. If 100 people give $40, then I will easily meet the fundraising goal. Your contribution of any amount is greatly appreciated, and of course, tax deductible. You can contribute by check made out to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, or credit card. Please complete the attached form and return it in the enclosed envelope. Or you can go to my web site at: www.active.com/donate/tntswtx/tntswtxJGonzal  (a secure site).  If you have any questions, please call or email me.

With your help and support, together we can help more children like Andrew survive cancer.

Sincerely,

Juan Miguel Gonzalez

Full Throttle Coffee & Gallery

Full Throttle Coffee & Gallery is the brainchild of AIH graduates James M. Moody (Visual Communications, March 1993) and Dawn Moody (Interior Design, March 1992). After being laid off from his position as Foley's/Macy's art director, James finished putting together the business plan and at night he and Dawn went out looking for the perfect spot to build FTC&G.

Living on the north side of Houston we knew that this side of town needed something like this, so we looked in Old Town Spring, down 1960 and even in The Woodlands--but they decided on a new strip center about a mile west off I-45 at 2040 Louetta Road Suite G. They decided to combine their three passions to create an environment and atmosphere that will make people feel at home. FTC&G is an art gallery that will display works (paintings, graphic design, photos, sculpture and furniture) from local and national artists. It also includes a large stage for live music. They will be classified as a 501c company and are giving a portion of our earnings to saving arts and music programs in the Houston/Spring area. FTC&G Grand Opening was Friday, April 13th. The musical guests for the evening will be Pale and this will be the northside release of the band's new EP, Mandatory Ambulance. Also photographer Kelly Cook will be showing her fabulous work starting that evening--these pieces will be for sale and include photos of Pale.

Take care and Thanks for your support!
Rockabilly James and Dawn

Consider running for office on the Alumni Association Board.
There are a range of positions that will vary in the level of time commitment necessary.

With the recent success of our Silent Auction we have been able to raise scholarship funds.  We are looking for 4 to 5 individuals to become an integral part in deciding who this money gets awarded to.  This committee would initially meet once to determine guidelines for the scholarships and once each quarter to determine the winners.

Help us make the Alumni Association the networking opportunity it can be.
If you have questions or would like to volunteer but can not attend
the event, please contact
Andi Maceo at amaceo@aii.edu or 713-823-0216.
