The Art Institute of Houston remembers a Culinary Instructor

It is with extreme sadness that we inform you that Chef Peter Lehr passed away Thursday, June 7, 2007. Many of you spent time with Chef Lehr as part of the Culinary Arts associate degree training in Houston.  I was given the privilege of bringing Chef Lehr into The Art Institute family in 1994.  He helped elevate and set the culinary standards for our schools.  He was a friend and disciple of "good cooking" and life long learning. Chef Lehr influenced so many lives, many of the Culinary Arts associate degree programs, the countless students he taught and those who used his Web site.  His students are everywhere and they worship him, as well they should, because he was a great man who helped others find the joy and passion to be a culinary professional. Chef Lehr had many accomplishments in his career and held leadership positions with several hotel corporations and hospitals, but enjoyed his time as an instructor the most. He brought a professional approach and dedication to the classroom and to his colleagues. He will truly be missed.

The Art Institute of Houston Renames Interactive Media Design Program to Include Emphasis in Web Design.

In response to advancements and the enhancements of a designer’s role within the communication technology field, The Art Institute of Houston has renamed its Interactive Media Design program to Web Design & Interactive Media.  This program’s renaming is intended to highlight The Art Institutes Web design curriculum strength within an existing program.

Larry Horn, President of The Art Institute of Houston, commented on the renaming of the program, saying “today in the rising world of e-commerce, every industry understands the need for a Web presence to successfully conduct business.  Due to the high visibility of Web positions in today’s marketplace, we felt it was important to clearly communicate our strong web design curriculum to future students.”

The curriculum for Web Design & Interactive Media will continue to offer students classes that address interface design,  interactivity, visual design, database design, dynamic content design, technology, information design, Photoshop, and other layout programs.  Graduates of the bachelor’s degree program will be prepared to enter the job market in entry-level positions such as Web Designer, Interactive Designer, and Web Programmer.

To learn more about the Web Design & Interactive Media program, visit www.artinstitutes.edu/houston   or contact the Admissions Department at 713.623.2070 or 1.800.275.4244.

Dear Alumni:

I want to thank everyone who donated, attended, and participated in the 3rd Annual Silent Auction.  We had a great event and were able to raise $1500 for scholarships for current students at The Art Institute of Houston. In addition to the money we raised this year, we were able to award the money that was raised last year.  Three students won scholarships of $650 each for their scholarship entries.  Shawn O'Neill and Maria Navarro won for their invitation and Web design and Shandra Ward won for her space design.  All three designs were used for our event this year.

As we proceed into our fourth year as a formal organization it is with great anticipation.  We look forward to awarding more scholarships and working toward increasing our Alumni group.  If you are interested in helping out or volunteering, please let us know.  We hope everyone has a great year and we will see you soon.
